Rainbow Falls Ice Formations

During a winter trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, my brother and I made it a point to visit many of the waterfalls in the Park. Our first excursion took us to Rainbow Falls. After a chilly and strenuous hike of almost 3 miles while gaining around 1,500 feet of altitude, we were rewarded with the sight of the falls surrounded by varying ice formations. This photo was taken near the base of the falls on 2001-12-26.
